Colon cancer doesn’t get the same attention as some higher-profile cancers, but it should. Colon cancer is a serious diagnosis that affects millions of people worldwide. Then there’s the good news about colon cancer: It can be prevented.
Colon cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the large intestine (colon). The colon is the final part of the digestive tract. It usually begins as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called polyps that form on the inside of the colon. Over time some of these polyps can become colon cancers.
Colon cancer is sometimes called colorectal cancer, which is a term that combines colon cancer and rectal cancer, which begins in the rectum.
Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:
According to current trends and some study, colon cancer is predicted to increase by 2020 and 2030, with the incidence rate for colon cancer anticipated to rise by 90 percent for patients age 20 to 34 and by 28 percent among patients age 35 to 49. Young faces will (sadly) not be unusual in the colon cancer world if things continue. So for those who are young and diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer, we have few advice:
Don’t be embarrassed.
The more you can embrace it and accept it, the easier this diagnosis will be. With your colon cancer you are going to deal with butts, farts, poop, booty – all of that stuff.
Stop comparing yourself to your friends.
With your cancer diagnosis, your life and your friends’ life would be on a different course. It’s OK if your house, job and family look different than others your age.
Be a good friend and be nice to them.
Cancer patients are the one who understands the true friendship. If someone brings food to your bedside, visits you, talks to you or even run a social media campaign for charity/help, believe me, those are true friends.
Think positive.
Choose to see the bright side of the life and think positive. If you do this, your fight won’t only seem easier, but it will also inspire many others along the way.
Seventy-five percent of all cases could be avoided by things you can do. Start with one or two and build from there. It’s your health. Take control.
Dr. Mahavir Tadaiya and his team offers the best treatment for colon cancer in Ahmedabad. If you notice any persistent symptoms that worry you, make an appointment with your doctor.
Treatments are decided on your particular situation, including the location of your cancer, its stage and your other health concerns. Diagnosis & treatment for colon cancer usually involves cancer surgery to remove the cancer. Other treatments, such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy, might also be recommended.
Surgery for early-stage colon cancer:
Surgery for more advanced colon cancer
If your cancer is very advanced or your overall health very poor, your surgeon may recommend an operation to relieve a blockage of your colon or other conditions in order to improve your symptoms. This surgery isn’t done to cure cancer, but instead to relieve signs and symptoms, such as a blockage, bleeding or pain.
